This poem by Sylvia Plath demonstrates the constant battle she seems to have within herself about what direction to go in with her writing. The poem contrasts between what is within grasp and what is out of reach, while using above and below the ocean an analogy. I also think that the picture represents the struggle that Plath had throughout her entire life. She was extremely depressed and was known to not socialize much and the picture and the poem both correlate to the behavior that Plath exhibits.
